TRANSLATE THE MEANING
Translate the meaning
If you are native English speaker and you want to
learn to speak Spanish as a new language, you need to install a Spanish-Spanish
dictionary into your brain.
Separately, you hold an ongoing English-English
dictionary in your brain.
You understand English in English and Spanish in
Spanish independently.
There is not much necessary comparison between English
and Spanish except you are linguist or a language teacher.
Bilingual speakers go the same path.
It is ok to have an English-Spanish dictionary in your
brain at an early stage of a language-learning.
However, try to avoid translating a word by a word.
You need to translate the meaning.
Meaning is essential but the words to tell the meaning
is a form.
What you need to do is speak and write more as a
native language speaker does.
If you do not know a word “beverage”, you can explain
like “something to drink”.
By trying to explain a new word with the words that
you already know, you are likely to have more opportunities to speak and write
a language that you are learning consistently.
This makes you grow in a language-learning.
